Announcing Co-Editorship of Communication and the Public (Sage Journals)! 📢

September 17, 2026

In 2016, Communication and the Public was founded, and our lab director Prof Weiyu Zhang's book, Fandom Publics, was published that same year. Both were driven by a shared commitment to exploring the complex relationships among communication, society, and publicness. Today, far from losing relevance, this set of questions has become even more intricate and profound.

As a co-editor, Prof Zhang hopes that Communication and the Public will continue to play its leading role as one of the earliest Global South journals with a genuinely global vision. She expects the journal to provide an intellectually rigorous and ethically grounded space for Global South scholarship—research that enables relatively marginalized societies to speak for themselves, rather than being treated merely as objects of study and description.

The journal’s mission is not only to analyze “the public” and related concepts, but also to imagine and explore what an ideal form of inclusive publicness, oriented toward the world as the goal, might look like.
